Anthony Childs Has the mood & feel of what you'd hear during the opening (or closing) credits of an edgy European crime drama or sci-fi /speculative fiction series. Curiously, the vocal tracks have a remixed version feel to them (DO check the two very good & very different remixes of "Unlearning" on the EP!" Vocally, I hear hints of Patrick Watson and William Ryan Fritch. As with almost all Mystery Circles releases, tracks are short and waste very little time (never feeling rushed). Favorite track: Blooming.

'Unlearning' drew inspiration from a poem I wrote in a dream during lockdown in 2020. I was quarantined alone in my tiny house cabin for four months with no physical human contact. Making this record gave me much needed purpose, structure and expression everyday. I had to use anything and everything I had in my house for sound design which was a challenge and also a joy. Pen to paper, silverware, microphone cases, salt shakers all made their way into the songs. The space I lived in will forever live in this record and I couldn't be happier about that. Since I had no access to other studios, I developed a whole new approach to engineering and mixing. I also made a point to not play any of the tracks until they were mastered, which i can say confidently makes this the most vulnerable work I have put out to date. I'm incredibly grateful to be releasing my debut LP. I hope you give it a listen in some headphones and enjoy some existential thoughts and musings from my dreams created in a time I will never forget. - AF

Somehow this one seems more abstract than the previous MC comps, maybe relying more on textures, moods and space than, say, melody. There is melody, of course, sorry my thoughts aren't concise. In any event, with Mystery Circles you can always expect a finely curated selection of tracks that will have you adding to your favorite new artists to follow. No track here is over 4 minutes! Actually, the longest two tracks clock in at 3:39. Impressive. Anthony Childs
